Former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown has joined the board of directors of Kadant, Inc., a Westford-based paper company.

Brown, who announced on Friday that he would not be running in the special election to fill John Kerry's former Senate seat, said he looked forward to sharing his knowledge and experiences and ``contributing to the future direction'' of the company.

Kadant president Jonathan Painter said the company welcomed the chance to draw on Brown's ``wealth of experience on local, state, national and international issues.''

The company describes itself as a leading supplier to the global pulp and paper industry.

Brown's decision not to run in the special election has sparked a scramble by fellow Massachusetts Republicans to find a candidate.

Democratic U.S. Reps. Edward Markey and Stephen Lynch have already declared their candidacies.
