BROCKTON (WBSM) — A Rochester man has been sentenced to up to a decade in state prison in connection with the shooting death of his sister’s boyfriend.

According to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz, Cody Perry, 36, was convicted Wednesday of voluntary manslaughter and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury.

Perry was sentenced to serve eight to 10 years in state prison. The Commonwealth had requested a sentence of 18 to 20 years.

The charges date back to April 7, 2023, when Rochester Police and Massachusetts State Police responded to reports of a shooting at Perry’s home located at 259 New Bedford Road.

Officers arrived to find the male victim – later identified as Justin Doberck, 41, of Mattapoisett – suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford where he was pronounced deceased.

The investigation determined that Perry and Doberck got into a disagreement following a night out together at a bonfire in the woods behind the property. The D.A.’s Office said the incident “escalated” once Perry retrieved a firearm from the home and shot Doberck.

Reports at the time indicated that Perry remained on the scene and was cooperative with law enforcement.
