I don't know about you but when the Miss Universe Pageant comes on television I flip the channel. Good thing I didn't this time because the U.S.A. had a winner!

She is Olivia Culpo from Rhode Island.  Olivia beat out 88 other contestants from six continents at the Planet Hollywood casino in Las Vegas.  Olivia is a student at B.U. and entering the Miss Rhode Island contest was her first pageant, she won it by the way in a rented $20 dress!  She did have a little bobble walking on stage but she did have a gracious recovery that the judges must have rewarded her for.  Just before she won she was asked whether she had ever done something she regretted.

‘‘I'd like to start off by saying that every experience no matter what it is, good or bad, you'll learn from it. That’s just life,’’ she said. ‘‘But something I've done I've regretted is probably picking on my siblings growing up, because you appreciate them so much more as you grow older.’’

Olivia grew up in Cranston her parents are both professional musicians and she is an accomplished Cellist.  She has played along side world renound cellist Yo-Yo Ma! The United states hasn't had a winner since 1997 when Brook Lee won.

As Miss Universe, Culpo will receive an undisclosed salary, a wardrobe fit for a queen, a limitless supply of beauty products, and a luxury apartment in New York City.
