
Rhode Island’s Johnson & Wales Waives Tuition For Some Students
Going to college will be easier this fall for some eligible students attending Rhode Island's Johnson & Wales University. The school has announced free tuition for qualifying undergraduate students entering in the fall of 2025.

Johnson & Wales University, a registered non-profit since 1963, is based in Providence, Rhode Island with a campus in Charlotte, North Carolina that opened in 2024.
Best known for its culinary arts program, Johnson & Wales University was founded as a business school in 1914.

The University has six academic units across each of its campuses: the College of Business, College of Food Innovation and Technology, College of Hospitality, College of Health & Wellness, College of Engineering & Design, and the John HazenWhite College of Arts & Sciences.

Who Qualifies for a Tuition Waiver at Johnson & Wales?
The university says its "JWU Pledge" tuition break "Covers up to 100 percent of tuition for eligible students and families with an annual household income of up to $80,000 and at least 60 percent of tuition for those with a household income below $200,000."
JWU Chancellor Mim Runey, LP.D. said in a press release, "This new initiative combined with our recently launched three-year degree programs, demonstrates the university's deep commitment to our educational mission of expanding lifelong access to higher education."
The program "combines institutional, federal, and state scholarships and grants to cover a qualifying student's tuition, either partially or completely based on their household income bracket."
Is the Tuition Waiver Program at Johnson & Wales Only for Rhode Islanders?
The program "extends to families who live in Rhode Island and its bordering states Connecticut and Massachusetts, and North Carolina, but it may be expanded in the future."
