A well known journalist on the Southcoast for more than 30 years has died at the age of 72.

Carol Lee Costa-Crowell died Tuesday in Port Charlotte, Florida following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Costa-Crowell started with the Standard Times in the paper's library during the 1960's, and worked her way up to reporter's position. She served for many years as the S-T's police reporter, when very few women were covering the police beat.  She was later named the paper's Assistant City Editor. She also worked for a time at the Fall River Herald News.

Susan Pawlak-Seaman, night editor and columnist for the Standard Times, joined the paper during the mid 70's and met Carol at that time.

Pawlak-Seaman says she learned much from Carol and called her "a wonderful journalist, and a wonderful person," and said "she will be missed so much."

Carol Lee Costa-Crowell is survived by her husband, David Crowell, who also worked as a photo-journalist for the Standard Times for many years. Funeral arrangements are incomplete
