Rehoboth Teen Accused of Shooting Friend Could be Freed on Bail
TAUNTON — A Rehoboth teen accused of accidentally shooting and killing his friend could be out on bail Wednesday.
Joseph Medeiros, 18, was ordered held on $25,000 bail on Monday in connection to the June 26 shooting death of Michael Pacheco, 17, of Dighton.
Prosecutors say Medeiros was playing with a gun while the two young men sat at a kitchen table when the gun fired, shooting Pacheco once in the chest.
The Taunton Gazette reports a status hearing scheduled for Wednesday could provide Medeiros the opportunity to raise and submit the bail amount.
If released on bail, Medeiros would be required to wear a GPS tracking device and would only be allowed to leave his home for either a court appearance or to visit the office of his attorney in Fall River.
Medeiros is charged with involuntary manslaughter, carrying an illegal firearm, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
