Former American League MVP Dustin Pedroia is heading to the disabled list.

The Red Sox are putting the second baseman on the shelf for 15 days with a strained hamstring. Boston has called up infield prospect Deven Marrero from Triple-A to fill the roster spot.

Pedroia was hurt on Wednesday night rounding first base following a two-run single. The 31-year-old is hitting .306 with nine home runs and 33 runs batted in this season.

And months after proclaiming he was going to win the Cy Young Award this season, Red Sox pitcher Joe Kelly is headed to the minor leagues.

Boston is demoting Kelly to Triple-A Pawtucket, while Justin Masterson is returning from injury and will likely take his spot in the rotation.

Kelly owns a 2-and-5 record with a 5.67 ERA in 14 starts this season. He told WEEI radio in Boston before the season he was going to win the Cy Young. (Metro Networks Inc.)
