Red Sox Honor Ortiz At Slugger’s Final Home Opener
The Boston Red Sox went all out for David Ortiz' final regular season home opener of his illustrious career, today.
Though the team fell to the undefeated Baltimore Orioles, 9-7, the Organization and it's fans took one last chance to welcome Papi back to Fenway Park for the start of another season.
Bill Russell was on hand as the Celtics' representative, while Bruins' legend Bobby Orr and Patriots' champion defensive back Ty Law also joined in in the celebration.
The three along with Ortiz each threw out a ceremonial first pitch. The Sox also trotted out some of Ortiz' favorite teammates from yesteryear.
as former catcher and team captain Jason Varitek and former BoSox' starters Pedro Martinez and Tim Wakefield shared a moment with the retiring slugger as they ushered in the start of a new season at the Fens.
The team also put together a video compilation of Ortiz' career set to John Lennon's "Imagine" to that was chalk full of some of Papi's biggest moment's in his Boston career.
Big Papi went 2-5 with an RBI in his final home opener.
