The Boston Red Sox acquired veteran infielder Aaron Hill from the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday, in exchange for a pair of Minor Leaguers.

Hill, who entered the majors in 2005, has played with three teams at multiple positions around the infield.

It appears that Hill will be utilized as the right-handed hitting part of a left/right third base platoon, with the team's regular third baseman Travis Shaw.

Shaw has struggled against left-handed pitching this season, hitting 83 points lower then against righties and putting together a lowly .620 OPS.

Hill has slashed .283/.359/.421 in 78 games this season and has compiled a .725 OPS versus left-handed pitching this season.

The 34-year-old has also posted a .267/.332/.431 slash line against lefties, throughout his career.

To complete the deal, Boston sent infielder Wendell Rijo and right-handed pitcher Aaron Wilkerson back to the Brewers.

Wilkerson has split time between Double-A and Triple-A this season and compiled a 2.14 ERA, while Rijo has seen time with Class A Advanced Salem and Portland so far.

Boston also designated outfielder Ryan LaMarre for assignment, to clear space for Hill on the 40-man roster.
