The Pentagon is honoring the French train attack heroes. The three men helped stop a heavily-armed gunman on a Paris-bound train last month.

In a Pentagon ceremony, Defense Secretary Ash Carter awarded the Airman's Medal and Purple Heart to U.S. Air Force Airman Spencer Stone. Stone suffered knife wounds in the scuffle with the assailant.

Army National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos received the Soldier's Medal. Anthony Sadler was honored with the Defense Department's Medal for Valor.

The three men have been close friends since childhood. The Pentagon ceremony was entitled, "Heroes of the Rails."

The three heroes met earlier with President Obama at the White House. The President said they represent the very best of America and American character.

Obama noted that the men prevented a potentially catastrophic situation that could have cost hundreds of lives.  (Metro Networks Inc.)
