There are legends, and then there are legendary legends. There are also legendary legends about legends. Since legends about legends are not always easy to confirm, I will report and you can decide.

One of the greatest legendary legends of the 20th century was Frank Sinatra. This legendary legend is about him.

Francis Albert Sinatra was born December 12, 1915, in Hoboken, New Jersey. Sinatra sold over 150 million records, ranking him among the world's best-selling musical artists.

Sinatra sold out concert venues for over 50 years, first to screaming teenage girls and later to the older set that grew up with his music. Frankie also made movies. He won an Academy Award for his performance in From Here to Eternity.

During his long career, Sinatra performed many times in New England.

The New England Historical Society says, "As a young crooner, Sinatra caused so much pandemonium among his Bobby Soxer fans that the management of the Boston Armory had to bolt down the seats."

Over the years, Sinatra played in Boston, Hartford, Stamford, the Newport Jazz Festival and Worcester. He led a campaign rally for John F. Kennedy's presidential bid at Fenway Park and shot portions of the film High Society in Newport.

But Sinatra, Italian to the core, loved Providence and the great Italian restaurants on Federal Hill. According to NEHS, Sinatra "liked the Italian wedding soup at Camille's Roman Garden" on Bradford Street on Federal Hill.

The site says, "After one pre-concert meal there, he burped on stage." After excusing himself, Sinatra reportedly said, "I just had the most wonderful food at Camille's Roman Garden."

Camille's still serves Italian wedding soup at 71 Bradford Street in Providence.

Sinatra died on May 14, 1998.

My first date with my wife was a Sinatra concert at the Providence Civic Center in 1990. We've been married for nearly 33 years.
