A new Providence bar with an entirely plant-based menu may be the most casual secret drink spot in the city. Plant City, a plant-based food hall and marketplace on South Water Street, will have you feeling like you're drinking during the time of Prohibition with their recently opened not-so-secret bar, 345 by Plant City.

345 by Plant City is the latest addition to this plant-based food heaven in downtown Providence. And the only way to get in is to walk through the secret backdoor inside the Plant City bakery. Yes, those checking out the Northeast's only plant-based bar for the night must first walk past cake racks, cookie sheets and mixers to get to the unmarked entrance.

But unlike the speakeasies of the Prohibition Era, you don't need a code word to get in -- just a reservation.

Wednesday through Sunday nights, 345 by Plant City is serving plant-based drinks and bar food in an intimate setting. The space only fits about 40, so you've definitely got to call and reserve your spot or be willing to wait. Though it seems like what you are waiting for is a fantastic night out.

We spoke with the chef at 345 by Plant City, Luis Jaramillo, who says, "Once you're in, you're in for a treat. Not only are you getting plant-based treatment, you're getting very well-curated finger foods."

The food does appear to be on point and even the NY System hotdog on the menu is completely vegan, having a carrot base. Chef Luis says Plant City has "worked hard to get the flavors and textures of meat just right" so I'm sure many bargoers come away surprised that they just enjoyed a 100 percent vegan night out.

Even the designated driver for the night is bound to have a good time at 345 by Plant City. The menu has a whole section of mocktails that were curated with as much care as the rest of the delicious menu.

And for those who can't get on the list for a night at the speakeasy, you can still try their amazing food at the Plant City bistro, marketplace, pizza bar and Mexican restaurant. It's all located inside the Plant City space on South Water Street in Providence.

Speaking of Bars With Good Food, Check Out the Best of the Area's South Shore Bar Pizzas Spots

There's pizza, and then there's South Shore Bar Pizza. Birthed in Brockton (and to this writer, perfected in Randolph – Lynwood Café is the true G.O.A.T.), it must meet certain qualifications to be considered "SSBP," which include: it's a 10-inch pie; it has a thin, cracker-like crust with minimal "flop;" the cheese is a blend that features more cheddar than mozzarella; and bonus points if you take it home between two carboard-type plates wrapped in flat brown paper bag. They also usually come with "laced" or "burnt" edges (terminology depends on where you are ordering), which is when the sauce and cheese are extended all the way to the edge of the pan, creating a crispy, flavorful coating to the crust. We reached out to the hugely popular South Shore Bar Pizza Social Club Facebook group to ask the experts to share the best of the best (in no particular order).
