Police are investigating after a head-on crash in on Rt. 58 in Carver sent five people to the hospital, destroyed two vehicles, and damaged a third.

The crash occurred Thursday around 2 p.m. on North Main Street near the Quickeez Convenience Store around 2 p.m., according to a press release from Carver police.

According to a preliminary investigation, a northbound 2007 BMW sedan failed to slow for a turning vehicle, then swerved into the oncoming lane, smashing into a 2013 GMC Acadia SUV. A third vehicle involved in the crash sustained minor damage.

There were four occupants in the SUV. The driver of the BMW was the sole occupant of that vehicle. All five persons were taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth with minor injuries.

The Plymouth County Sheriff's Department/BCI assisted with the crash scene. North Main Street (Rt. 58) was restricted to northbound traffic for about an hour.
