Pilot Program Directs Ex-Cons To Welfare Rolls – Barry Richard
Massachusetts prison officials are offering information to inmates whose sentences are coming to a close on how to apply for welfare benefits before their release. A prison official tells The Boston Herald the pilot program makes the convicts "aware of how to self-identity as disabled.” The program is not without it's critic's, many of whom fear it drives inmates towards government dependency and away from self-reliance.
