PETA Offers $5,000 to Catch Attleboro Goose Family Killer

ATTLEBORO — Animal rights nonprofit People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person or people responsible for running over a family of geese in Attleboro last Friday.

The five geese — a mother goose, a gander, and three goslings — were attempting to cross Route 123 near the water treatment plant in Attleboro at around 4:15 p.m. Friday.

Witnesses said the driver of a gray truck deliberately ran over and killed the family after waiting in a line of cars for the geese to navigate the road, according to a press release from PETA and a Facebook post from the Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter.

PETA noted in the press release that the organization is hoping for help from the public in solving the case.

“Geese mate for life, protect their families, and don’t deserve to be mowed down by someone with a dangerously short fuse,” said PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien.

“PETA is asking anyone with information to come forward so that the person responsible for this heinous act can be held accountable and stopped from hurting anyone else.”

Massachusetts Wildlife You Can Legally Take Home as Pets

Massachusetts has such diverse wildlife, but also strict limitations on what you can bring home and cuddle. In fact, there are only certain reptiles and amphibians you can keep as pets (so no raccoons, squirrels, bunnies, etc.) and you are only allowed two of each. The state also says "you cannot sell, barter, or exchange them." Also, keep in mind, these are wildlife, so it's probably best to just leave them be and maybe visit a reptile shop instead to get your next pet.
