Oprah Among Medal Of Freedom Honorees
Oprah Winfrey's "can-do" approach to life is placing her in elite company.
The media mogul was among more than a dozen recipients of the Presidential Medal Of Freedom, honoring distinguished Americans, at a White House ceremony Wednesday.
In presenting the medal, President Obama said Oprah's greatest strength has always been her ability to "help us discover the best in ourselves."
Other honorees included country legend Loretta Lynn, Cuban jazz great Arturo Sandoval, baseball legend Ernie Banks, former President Bill Clinton, feminist icon Gloria Steinem, and late astronaut Sally Ride.
The Presidential Medal Of Freedom is the highest civilian award in the U.S. and is presented to individuals who have made notable contributions to the security or national interests of the country, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors. (Metro Networks Inc.)
