The 2nd Annual "Operation Cranksgiving" is part food drive, part bicycle ride, and part supermarket sweep-style scavenger hunt. All donations will benefit individuals and families in need through the United Way’s Hunger Heroes Project.

There are four ways to participate in this event:

  1. Join the team at the Buttonwood Park Community Center on Saturday, November 14 from 8 am to 12 pm. Everyone is asked to and bring anywhere between $10 and $20 to purchase nonperishables, although that is not a requirement. “All you need is bike, a bag, a lock, and some money to buy your donation. Otherwise, this event is free, open to the public, and cosmically inclusive. All people-powered and assistive vehicles are welcome! Of course, you can bring donations from home but they must match the manifest on the day of the event to qualify for contests. All donations will be accepted.”
  2. Donate online. Click HERE for 100 percent of your donation will be used to buy even more food.
  3. Drop off donations. Bring the requested Thanksgiving items listed HERE to one of the Drop Site Locations: Calico, The MadLila, Hewn, New Bedford Luxury Exchange, Coastal New England Federal Credit Union, and more locations to be announced.
  4. Fly solo at your own pace. “Follow our flight plan or plot your own course. Complete checkpoint challenges and then share your progress on Instagram with #CranksgivingNB!”

In 2019, this New Bedford Starchasers event collected over 130 pounds of food for the United Way of Greater New Bedford's "Hunger Heroes Project." Seeing this crew last year made the final stretch of the Hunger Heroes Food Drop event something to remember. They helped get our collections to over 4,000 pounds of donated food.
