One man has been killed following a standoff with Norton Police Saturday night.

Lt. Todd Jackson says officers were sent to an Azalea Rd. home around 10:30 p.m. after receiving a 911 call that a man was trying to get into a safe containing a firearm.

Shots were fired at officers as they approached the home and they immediately returned fire.

Jackson says the scene was secured as officers waited for the SWAT team from the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council to arrive.

No officers went into the home and no one else left as they waited.

Officers entered the home and confirmed that the man, identified by the Bristol County District Attorney's office as 48-year-old Kevin Murray, was found inside dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

No officers were injured.

An autopsy will be performed on Monday to determine the exact cause of death.
