One Killed In Crash Involving Dirtbike And Police Cruiser

One person has died following an accident involving a Fall River Police cruiser and a dirt bike early Wednesday morning.

Lt. Paul Santos says that the cruiser was driving near Montaup St. and Slade St. when it was struck by an off road dirt bike that was travelling without headlights.

The driver of the dirt bike sustained serious injuries.

EMS treated him at the scene before transporting him to St. Anne's Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Two officers in the cruiser were hospitalized with minor injuries.

Santos says a second dirt bike, which was traveling with this dirt bike, fled the scene.

The incident is being investigated by the Fall River Police Department Major Crimes Division, The District Attorney's Office, State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney, Fall River Police Department Accident Reconstruction Team, and the Fall River Police Department Crime Scene Unit.
