A workman fixing a fence at the corner of Pleasant and Sycamore Streets in New Bedford finds two rusted guns in a plastic trash bag filled with water. Detective Capt. Steven Vicente says that the shotgun and World War 1 military bolt-action rifle were buried under leaves in the back of a parking lot. It was unclear how long the guns had been in the plastic bag, but both were rusted out, and the shotgun was held together by tape.

Vicente said New Bedford Police would run the weapons' serial numbers to see whether they were stolen. If a match is not found, they will be destroyed.
