America is a free country and money is inseparable from freedom. Americans can give zero or all they have to a political cause according to their beliefs.

Former Vice President Joseph Biden has some supporters who want to see him become the next president of our Republic. They believe he is the best person to lead our country and they want to tell the rest of their fellow citizens why they believe what they believe.

They want to convince Americans to vote for Joe Biden. What is wrong with that?

The free people of America have the right to speak their opinions. The free people of America have the right to associate with other Americans without interference by the government. It takes money to acquire the tools necessary for association and communication of opinions.

If a bunch of people wants to get together and pool their private resources to support Joe Biden or any other candidate for office, that is their right. The U.S. Constitution doesn't give rights, it defends the individual rights of human beings.

If citizens can't pool their resources to support candidates, the only candidates will be those who can use their own wealth to achieve political power. Donald Trump is only the president because he was able to spend his own money to get elected. Billionaire Tom Steyer is trying to replicate in the 2020 Democratic Party primary what he saw Trump do in 2016.

Wealthy individuals have the same rights as the rest of us in America. Senator Eugene McCarthy opposed President Lyndon Johnson in 1968 on the issue of the war in Vietnam. Senator McCarthy was only able to contest the sitting president in the Democratic Party primaries because he was supported by a wealthy family who thought the war in Vietnam was wrong and wrong enough for them to spend a portion of their personal fortune.

Massachusetts has an important primary for president in the first week of March 2020. It will be an expensive campaign and the people of Massachusetts should have access to as much information as possible prior to voting.

The Constitution was designed to protect the rights of American citizens to stop wars and all the other things that are dwarfed by wars but done by the individuals holding the levers of power in our imperfect Republic.
