Now Accepting Holiday Wish Nominations 2025

In December of 2015, Fun 107 and the United Way of Greater New Bedford teamed up to launch a different kind of holiday charity program. Holiday Wish Week was created to help local SouthCoast families who have had a particularly tough year, in particular families who might slip through the cracks when it comes to government assistance.

What Is Holiday Wish Week?

Holiday Wish Week supports families dealing with situations like a medical crisis, the loss of a family member, or a sudden financial hardship. What makes the program unique is that it focuses on one family per day, allowing donors to know exactly who they are helping and how their donations are being used.

In past years, we’ve worked with families who have:

• A child with a rare genetic disorder in need of specialty medical equipment and therapy
• Fled a domestic violence situation and need to furnish an apartment
• A pipe burst leading to sewage flooding their basement making the house unlivable until cleaned
• The need for a new fridge to keep insulin cold for a grandmother raising her granddaughter with diabetes

There is something powerful about helping a neighbor down the street, right here on the SouthCoast, during the season of giving.

How You Can Nominate a Family

If you know a SouthCoast family that could use help this holiday season, please submit a nomination on the United Way of Greater New Bedford website.

Once nominations close, our Holiday Wish Committee reviews the submissions and selects five families to be supported on-air during Holiday Wish Week. The United Way has been an invaluable partner through all ten years of this program, helping guide the process to ensure funds are handled with care and fairness.

How the Community Can Help

Support for Holiday Wish families comes not only from generous businesses across the SouthCoast, but also from everyday families and even children. Some of the most memorable moments happen when kids call in to donate their own allowance to help another child in need.

Holiday Wish Week's Impact

With your donations since 2015, we've been able to provide selected families with:

• 7 pieces of specialty adaptive equipment for children
• 88 months of rent and mortgage payments
• 60 utility bills
• 12 months of specialized medical therapy
• 25 night of nurses
• 5 months of medical supplies
• 36 appliances and pieces of furniture
• 16 home improvement projects (ramps, demolition, etc)
• 41 auto related expenses (car insurance bills, purchase of vehicles, repairs, etc.)
• 9 nights in hotels for families impacted by natural disasters
