The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is investing $10 million on fishery research projects around the country. 

 More than $5 million will be used to fund 21 projects in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. 

Northeast Administrator John Bullard tells WBSM News, there were 120 applications submitted by entities from North Carolina to Maine....

Bullard says much of the money awarded in the Northeast will go towards projects studying ways to benefit the struggling groundfish industry. 

 NOAA says $189,000 dollars was designated for the UMass-Dartmouth School of Marine Science and Technology.  Ironically, SMAST will be assisting in a research proejct in North Carolina, studying ways to reduce finfish bycatch when trawling for shrimp.
