NEW BEDFORD — The Port of New Bedford remains the No. 1 fishing port in the country for the 20th consecutive year.

NOAA Fisheries released its annual Fisheries of the United States report on Thursday. This year’s report examined all the fish landings of 2019, and once again, New Bedford was the highest-grossing fishing port in the country.

New Bedford hauled in 16 million pounds of seafood in 2019, valued at $451 million – $20 million more than the previous year’s catch.

NOAA points out that sea scallops are helping to keep New Bedford on top, comprising 84 percent of the port’s total catch.
