New Look Wings Court Unveiled In Downtown New Bedford
A nice crowd enjoyed lunch Wednesday at Wings Court in Downtown New Bedford.
Thanks to a $7,500 state grant, the city's Office of Housing and Development has added patio-seating, lighting and other improvements to the area.
Mayor Jon Mitchell says the work at Wing's Court is part of the city's efforts to take the Downtown to the next level. "In cities these days, its all about place-making and walkability, taking some assets and polishing them up and making them destinations," said Mitchell, "and that's what the city is doing with Wing's Court."
Development Director Pat Sullivan says he's hoping "people will visit all the great assets Downtown, but there are still some undiscovered places, and Wing's Court is a hidden gem."
Visitor Kathy Santos is a believer in the Downtown. She and her friends eat lunch there at least twice a week. "There's a lot of new restaurants with a lot of different choices and the food is delicious," Santos said.
Also part of the improvements was the unveiling of five Adirondack chairs decorated by local non-profit organizations. Officials say they'll be a permanent part of Wings Court.
The city has also invited several local artists to produce two and three-dimensional works of art to be located in the public space.
