NEW BEDFORD — A woman was severely burned in a fire Tuesday evening in New Bedford.

The New Bedford Fire Department responded to a triple-decker residence at 354 Coffin Avenue just before 5 p.m. Tuesday. Flames were reported coming from the third floor.

A woman who was on the third floor was removed by firefighters. According to authorities, she was conscious and alert but severely burned. She was taken to St. Luke's Hospital and is reportedly in critical condition.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. According to fire officials, the third floor and attic sustained fire damage, while the first two floors suffered water damage.
