What do you like to eat when you’re having a few beers?

A hot dog is a solid option – no, a chili dog. Some fries would be good, too – wait, make it cheese fries. Also, maybe something with a little heat, something spicy like a jalapeno popper.

If each of those sound good, how about if they were all brought together in the ultimate bar snack? Well, Sixes & Sevens in downtown New Bedford thought the same thing.

If you haven’t been to Sixes & Sevens yet, it may be the most “chill” bar downtown, and that’s by design. The place is going for a laid-back atmosphere and describes itself as a “bar (and) food joint.”

Located in the former Cobblestones, it makes the most of its deep woods, exposed brick and tin ceiling.

They also knew that whether it be hungry patrons looking for some good grub or folks at the bar having a few drinks, hot dogs would go over well on the menu.

Indeed, they have a number of franks, smash burgers and other sandwiches and such.

One item, though, seems innocuous enough when you see it on the menu: Chili Dog Cheese Fries. In reality, though, it's a beast.

The menu describes the dish as “seasoned shoestring fries topped with our house beef & bean chili, cheddar whiz, diced white onion, fried jalapenos and hot dog coins.”

It’s listed under “shareables,” and it’s no lie. You’re going to need some help with this one.

The fries will definitely soak up the beer (or whatever you’re imbibing) and the combination of other flavors and ingredients means you’re going to want to attack this with a knife and fork as well as an empty stomach.
