The New Bedford Seaport Cultural District celebrated its first year of accomplishments during their first annual meeting Thursday evening at the Buzzards Bay Coalition Center.

The highlights included attracting new businesses and artists to the district as well as making downtown a larger tourist destination.

Adrian Tio, co-chair of the District's Executive Committee, says the District is all about opening up a line of communication.

"It's really about saying it's okay to be connected and it's okay to share audiences. They're the same audience, they're the same donors so let's share them instead."

The District was officially designated by the state last March and is made up of 49 cultural attractions and 29 businesses.

It spans 20 city blocks and is all within walking distance.

Thursday's meeting also allowed members of the District to offer ideas for the second year of work and the chance to choose the District's new official logo.
