New Bedford Police Detectives Make Firearm Arrest

NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford Police detectives were able to take an illegal firearm off the street and arrest a New Bedford man as a result.

According to police, Sgt. Jarrod Gracia of the NBPD Gang Unit received information that Curtis Monteiro, 21, possessed a firearm.

On November 9 at about 4 p.m., Monteiro was seen walking in the area of the Chestnut Street and Robeson Street intersection. He was stopped by Detectives Nathaniel Almeida and Samuel Algarin-Mojica.

According to police, the detectives discovered Monteiro was allegedly in possession of a Taurus G2C 9mm handgun loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition that was tucked into his waistband. Police said Monteiro had no license to possess a firearm, and that the gun’s serial number had been defaced.

Monteiro was placed under arrest and is now charged with carrying a loaded, large-capacity firearm with an obliterated serial number without a license.

Last year, a Curtis Monteiro from New Bedford was arrested in Boston along with another New Bedford man for allegedly crashing a stolen car into a construction vehicle.
