Remember when your parents would tell you to stand up straight, or your teacher would instruct you to sit up straight at your desk? Good posture was important then, and it's still important today.

Speaking this week on Townsquare Sunday, certified yoga therapist Nanci Winterhalter said good posture can impact your life in a number of ways.

"Posture is a reflection of how someone's body is working and how they're feeling," Winterhalter said.

"Posture also affects our balance, our cardio-respiratory system, our energy level, and digestion, not to mention our attitude, our confidence and appearance," she said.

Winterhalter is teaming with physical therapist Justina Perry to hold a Posture Workshop from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 23 at Sangha New Bedford, located at 693 Purchase Street. Proceeds will benefit Our Sisters' School, a private school for middle-school aged girls in New Bedford.

Winterhalter said she has done several yoga events in the past to support Our Sisters' School.

"I'm in line with their core values of excellence, community, civic engagement and leadership. At the heart of Our Sisters' School is social justice," she said.

You can register for the Posture Workshop on the Sangha website. For more information, call (508) 990-0178.
