New Bedford Police responded to a stabbing in the city's North End Wednesday evening.

Shortly after 6 p.m., a scanner report indicated a male victim had been stabbed in the back.

Police confirmed to WBSM News that they responded to a stabbing victim at the intersection of County Street and Sawyer Street but offered no further details.

"The investigation is being furthered by detectives and is very active at this time," spokesperson Lt. Scott Carola said.

There have been a spate of stabbings in recent weeks, including on back-to-back days at the end of March. There was also a stabbing on March 8.
