NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A man from Puerto Rico is under arrest on a charge of murder after the stabbing death of another man in New Bedford on Saturday.

According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, New Bedford Police responded to 68 South Street in the early afternoon of August 24. They arrived to find Omil Padilla-Corsino, 23, suffering from life-threatening stab wounds.

He was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the D.A.’s Office identified Juan Padilla-Santana, 32, as the suspect. He was taken into custody and is charged with murder.

The D.A.’s Office said Padilla-Santana is a relative of the victim and that the stabbing was the result of an argument among family members inside 68 South Street.

Padilla-Santana is expected to be arraigned Monday in New Bedford District Court.

This marks the fourth homicide this month in New Bedford.

First, 44-year-old Aaron Britto of New Bedford was shot and killed on Earle Street in the early morning hours of August 4. One person has been arrested in connection.

Then on August 17, Nicholas Miller, 26, of Bridgewater was shot and killed on Acushnet Avenue.

On August 20, Stephen Oswald, 58, of New Bedford was allegedly killed by Nina Busnengo, 31, with a last known address in Mattapoisett.
