NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford police arrested a man Friday morning after he was caught allegedly breaking into vehicles.

Police said 19-year-old Taziah Andrade of Emerson Street was arrested on charges of breaking and entering a vehicle after downtown units responded to a call to Chancery and Union streets just after 1 a.m. Friday.

A witness called to report two men who were allegedly breaking into vehicles in the area.

The witness gave a clothing description and area of travel, according to police.

When officers arrived, police said they found two men in a yard on Morgan Street.

According to police after chasing the suspects on foot, an officer caught one of them, later identified as Andrade.

The officer also recovered several items believed to be stolen.

Andrade was charged with breaking and entering a vehicle in the night with the intent to commit a felony and receiving stolen property over $1,200.

Police are still looking for the second suspect.
