A New Bedford man is arraigned after he was found loading his truck with sheet metal.

Tuesday evening, police responded to Crapo and Winsor streets for a report of a male breaking into the Don Adams property. When they arrived, police saw a large hole cut into the fence of the property, with a man inside the fenced area loading sections of sheet metal into his truck.

The man said he had permission from the owner, but when the owner arrived he said he had never seen the man before.

Police then arrested the 36-year-old man, identified as Paul Madeira of Nelson Street, and charged him with attempt to commit a crime, trespassing, malicious destruction of property, and having an unregistered, uninsured motor vehicle with illegally attached plates.
