NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A woman was shot and killed in New Bedford Tuesday night.

According to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, New Bedford Police responded to 438 Bolton Street in New Bedford at about 6:20 p.m. on March 4 for a report of a bloody female lying in the first-floor hallway.

Police arrived to find Karina Martinez-Ortiz, 32, lying on the floor in front of her apartment. The D.A.’s Office said she had “obvious injuries” from gunshot wounds and life-saving measures were taken as she was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital.

She was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, New Bedford Police and Homicide Unit prosecutors are actively investigating her homicide. No further information was provided.
