NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A Rhode Island man was arrested recently in New Bedford for allegedly trafficking nearly 50 grams of fentanyl.

According to New Bedford Police, Detective Lavar Gilbert was conducting an investigation June 15 at around 11 p.m. into a fentanyl distribution operation conducted out of a vehicle from Rhode Island.

Police said that detectives stopped the vehicle in the area of the County Street-Union Street intersection, and executed a search warrant for the vehicle.

The search turned up nearly 50 grams of fentanyl, police said, “along with a cutting agent used in the processing of the drug for street-level sales.”

Elison Luis Martinez Jean, 29, of Johnston, Rhode Island was arrested and charged with trafficking fentanyl in excess of 36 grams.
