New Bedford Man Arrested for Allegedly Pulling Gun in Gas Fight

A New Bedford man was arrested Sunday for allegedly pulling out a firearm during an argument at a gas station in the city’s North End.

At approximately 6 p.m. on June 26, New Bedford Police North End units responded to a call of a disturbance involving two men at the gas station located at 535 Belleville Avenue.

According to police spokesman Lt. Scott Carola, officers who arrived on scene learned that one of the men had allegedly pointed a firearm at the other man before leaving the scene. He said the two men had been involved in an argument regarding the line waiting for fuel.

The man with the firearm was located soon thereafter and placed under arrest. The man, identified as Marcelino DeAndrade, 25, of New Bedford, is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and improper storage of a firearm.

Lt. Carola said DeAndrade is licensed to possess the firearm, but that it was subsequently seized due to the nature of the charges against him.
