New Bedford Firefighters made quick work of two fires Monday afternoon.

Fire crews were battling a small fire at 82 Nye Street when an alarm sounded for a second blaze at 45 Tallman Street.

Several trucks were diverted to the Tallman street address, where District Chief Jeff Pothier says smoke was coming from the attic of the six family home....

Damage at the Tallman Street fire was estimated at around $10,000.  A total of 10 tenants were displaced by the fire, and are being assisted by the Red Cross.  Pothier said the fire was electrical in nature.

The Nye Street fire was contained in a wall between the third floor and the attic, and caused by a cooking accident.  Damage was estimated at around $3,000. There were no injuries reported in either fire.
