NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford Police arrested a Fall River man after allegedly finding him in possession of crack cocaine and a loaded handgun.

New Bedford Police said that in the early morning of September 29, officers responded to the Last Round Bar & Grille on Purchase Street and were told that a male suspect had threatened the security staff with a firearm before fleeing in a vehicle.

He then abandoned the vehicle behind the building and fled on foot, but was stopped by officers a short distance away at the intersection of William Street and Acushnet Avenue.

Police said the suspect initially gave a false name to the officers but was soon identified as Ricky Ricardo Lorenzi, 28, of Fall River.

They said Lorenzi was found to have an active warrant for his arrest.

A search of the vehicle from which he fled allegedly turned up two baggies of crack cocaine and a digital scale. In addition, police said Lorenzi discarded a firearm in the threshold of a nearby building. Police recovered the firearm, a Taurus G3C loaded with a high-capacity extended magazine filled with 16 9mm cartridges.

Lorenzi was arrested and charged with a number of serious offenses including possession of a firearm loaded with a high-capacity magazine, threatening to use a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and possession of crack cocaine, among other charges.

Lorenzi was previously convicted of firearm possession in January 2023 related to a November 2022 shooting on Route 24. Police said at the time of this most recent arrest, he was on probation out of Fall River District Court.
