New Bedford Police Nab Suspect Allegedly Breaking Into Donut Shop
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — New Bedford Police arrested a city man Monday night after they say they caught him breaking into a Honey Dew Donuts shop.
According to police, South End patrol units responded to the Honey Dew at 113 Conway Street on May 1 at about 11 p.m. for a security alarm activation. They said the alarm was tripped by someone attempting to break in through the drive-thru window.
Police said Officer Timothy Gibney arrived first on the scene and allegedly saw the suspect through the window of the shop, and that his face was covered. They said once he spotted the police, the suspect ran to the door and attempted to flee on foot.
After a brief chase, he was taken into custody.

Police said in addition to allegedly breaking the drive-thru window, the suspect, identified as Dominick Santo Ferreira, 23, of New Bedford, allegedly damaged the register while attempting to open it.
Ferreira was charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime with the intent to commit a felony, as well as two charges of felony damage to property.
“A fast response is a key factor to catching breakers in the act,” Chief Paul Oliveira said. “These crimes are committed by suspects who move quickly and are in and out of the building in a matter of minutes. I’m grateful for the rapid response and the manner in which these officers apprehended the suspect.”
