NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A New Bedford man charged with murder now stands accused of a recent armed carjacking incident.

New Bedford Police said the incident happened on August 14 around 9:30 p.m. patrol units responded to the Boa Vista Tower parking lot in response to an armed carjacking.

It's alleged that two victims were sitting in their vehicle when two masked males approached them with guns.

The suspects held the victims at gunpoint, ordered them out of their car, and instructed them to leave behind their personal belongings. That's when the suspects entered the vehicle and fled the scene on South Second Street.

Detectives have now identified one of those suspects as Anthony Jalo, 21. Jalo is currently under arrest for murder. He is accused of the fatal killing of Aaron Britto, who was shot and killed during a robbery on August 4.

Police said while being taken into custody for that crime, evidence tied Jalo to the August 14 incident. In addition to the charges surrounding the homicide, Jalo is now charged with armed carjacking.

The identity of the second suspect remains under investigation.

Jalo remains in the custody of the Bristol County Sheriff's office, where he being is held without bail.

"Given the fact that this suspect shot a man 10 days earlier, there is no doubt as to the propensity for violence Jalo has. We are very fortunate that the victims of this carjacking were not hurt on this night," Police Chief Paul Oliveira said. "I'm delighted that we could bring them some comfort in knowing that an arrest has been made. We will not relent until Jalo's partner in this crime is sitting in a cell beside him."
