CORRECTION: After publication, the Bristol County District Attorney's Office sent a correction that Amado was sentenced to 34 to 40 years, not the previously reported 30 to 35 years.

FALL RIVER (WBSM) — A former New Bedford man sentenced Thursday to 34 to 40 years in state prison for raping his own daughter.

According to Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn, Andrew Amado, 44, of Quincy was convicted June 26 by a jury in Fall River Superior Court of aggravated rape of a child, indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and posing/exhibiting a child in a sexual act.

The D.A.’s Office said incidents occurred between December 2014 and October 2018 “against a young child within the defendant’s family.”

“Some of the acts against the child were recorded,” the D.A.’s Office said. “The conduct for which the defendant was convicted included having another individual consume the defendant’s own bodily fluids.”

No further information was provided about the crimes.

According to a tweet from freelance court reporter Charles Winokoor, the crimes occurred in New Bedford and the victim was Amado’s daughter, who was seven years old at the time. He wrote that the victim’s mother also admitted guilt and took a plea deal.

“The defendant engaged in utterly depraved conduct that is different to comprehend against a very young member of his own family. The lengthy sentence imposed by the Court is entirely appropriate,” D.A. Quinn said.
