The New Bedford Health Department will be leading a major health initiative in the region.

The Health Department will partner with the City of Fall River to develop a series of health initiatives that will focus on prevention.  The partnership is one of nine programs across the State addressing health issues like obesity, tobacco use, hypertension and substance abuse.

The Health Department will receive a $250,000 grant to start the program, and could receive up to $1.5 million each year for the next three years.  Mayor Jon Mitchell believes the Health Department is up to the task.......

The partnership will be led by New Bedford Health Director Dr. Brenda Weis.

The Mayor says he has no doubt the partnership will lead improved health outcomes and reduced health care costs in the region.
