New Bedford's Nate Lang knows the single paradiddle is an extremely popular drum rudiment that sounds great while played within drum beats.

It is an absolutely essential fundamental for any drummer that wants to expand their drumming possibilities. Actor and musician Nate Lang broadens both disciplines in the Oscar-nominated motion picture, Whiplash, an Indie film in which Nate has a key role next to Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons.

A promising young drummer enrolls at a cutthroat music conservatory where his dreams of greatness are mentored by a relentless, fire-breathing instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student's potential.

Nate is the son of former Mayor Scott Lang and his wife, Gig, and a graduate of New Bedford High School. He had his first drum lessons here and has been the drummer of the New York City-based rock band, The Howlin' Souls. Nate was instrumental in teaching Miles Teller how to look like a drummer on screen.

When the Academy Award nominees were announced, Whiplash garnered five nominations! J.K. Simmons has already won a Golden Globe for his performance. Everyone here is cheering for our home town star, who joined Kasey and me on-air from his L.A. home.
