Mayor Jon Mitchell says he'd love to see a bigger Coast Guard presence in the Port of New Bedford.

The Coast Guard pulled it's two cutters out of New Bedford during the Kalisz Administration, and despite the efforts of recent Mayors, the cutters have not returned.

Mitchell says he's talked to the Coast Guard about it......

Mitchell says with an active fishing industry, the offshore wind industry, and increased shipping activity on the horizon, there is a need for more security in the port.

He says New Bedford continues to have a close relationship with the Coast Guard units based in Providence.
