The Commissioner of Education for Massachusetts says he's very concerned about the lack of academic improvement at the Hayden-McFadden school in New Bedford.

Speaking on the Brian Thomas program on WBSM, Mitchell Chester says he's awaiting a turn-around plan from Superintendent Pia Durkin.

Asked why the entire staff at Hay-Mac had to re-apply for their jobs, the Commissioner responded,  "I feel that business as usual at Hayden-McFadden is not going to result in better outcomes for students, so one way or another we need to turn that school around. I have a lot of confidence in Superintendent Durkin and I'll look forward to reviewing the plan she gives me," said Chester.

Hayden-McFadden has been designated a "level four" school by the state for the past several years.
