Best Turn Around For Hayden McFadden
I've been eyeballing bits and pieces of the Hayden McFadden Elementary School's vaulted and highly anticipated turnaround plan. My head is spinning.
- The school rooster goes cock-a-doodle-doo at 7:45 AM. The kids stay there for eight frickin' hours. Most adults go postal working a full day. How long will it be before six and seven year old fidgety boys become labelled A-D-H-D, and swallow RX pills with bananas, because they're simply restless from long days at school? When HayMac got spanked a Level 4 school, students in grades K-2 were in diapers. They don't deserve to be institutionalized for 1,330 hours a year because the system failed other kids.
- The first day of class is Wednesday August 17th. That's not a typo. We're talking 2 1/2 weeks before Labor Day. For parents that went to school prior to 1990, August 17 is still summertime and three full weeks before school use to start. Newer students suffer in the heat because of others. The school principal and 80% of the faculty were not part of HayMac's demise. Speaking of suffering. Did I mention summer vacation ends August 8 for teachers?
- To academically assist students, Hayden McFadden will incorporate a few Wrap around coordinators to the payroll. Superintendent Pia Durkin calls these coordinators, specialists. They specialize in finding out all things educational outside the school. Coordinators monitor food stamps, any form of doctor or dental issues and associated home problems. Sounds like social work.
The above elements of the turnaround plan are proof positive that government education is big business. They lobby hard like big pharma. Longer school hours plus ten extra school days mean more tax dollars for those running the educational asylum. Wrap around coordinators prying into family affairs is highly intrusive and totally unwarranted. Some HayMac parents may face financial bankruptcy. The majority are not morally bankrupt. These adults are fully capable of and do responsibly care of their children. I suggest HayMac parents do their own turnaround plan, and get out?
