New Britain's minor league baseball team has acknowledged it staged a marriage-proposal rejection at a recent game as a publicity stunt.

A video of what appeared to be the negative response of a woman to on-field proposal by a fan last Friday has been viewed more than 600,000 times on YouTube and was the subject of several news stories.

The Double-A Rock Cats, an affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, issued a statement Wednesday acknowledging the club staged the event, and apologizing to anyone who might have been offended.

"We worked with two of our employees on the skit and executed a digital strategy to set the video on a viral path; we could not be more pleased with the outcome," said Mike Abramson, the team's vice president of marketing.
