Michael Phelps Earns 19th Olympic Gold Medal As USA 4X100 Relay Team Takes 1st In Rio
The most decorated athlete in the history of the Olympic Games has added another gold medal to his trophy shelf.
Michael Phelps notched his 19th career Olympic gold medal and 23rd overall as the second leg of the USA's championship Men's 4X100 Relay Team, Sunday in Rio.
After a quality first lap start by Caeleb Dressel, Phelps leaped into the pool with America just off the lead and battled back to give Team USA a sizable advantage heading into the back half of the event.
From there, a quality third leg from Ryan Held and a strong finish by Nathan Adrian secured the team's win.
After the race, Phelps, speaking to NBC's Michelle Tafoya, said he was very happy to bring the relay title back to American soil.
