At the last New Bedford City Council meeting, Mayor Mitchell's appointee to the New Bedford Housing Authority, Robert Schilling, was rejected by a vote 9-2.

Earlier this week, Housing Authority Executive Director Steve Beauregard admitted it was he who called City Council members to keep Rev. Leona Fisher on the Housing Authority Board.

While on his weekly radio program, Mayor Mitchell responded to the decision by the City Council to reject Mr. Schilling.

The Mayor said he appointed Schilling because the Mayor felt he was the right man for the job. The Mayor said there needs to be a stronger board and that is what he was trying to do but the City Council and Politics got in the way.
